Liberty used a five-run sixth inning to take the 8-0 win over the Presbyterian College softball team in Big South action Friday evening in Lynchubrg, Va.
Scoring the Game
Tori Zavodny put the Flames on the board with a RBI single in the third to plate Jessica Cicerchia, giving the Flames the 1-0 lead. Liberty added two more in the bottom of the fifth off a PC throwing error to make it 3-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning Alexia Taylor hit a two-run home run over the left field wall, giving Liberty a 5-0 lead. A Deidras See two-RBI double the same inning made It 7-0, with a bases loaded RBI single by Sarah Robertson ended the game early with Liberty earning the 8-0 win in six innings.
Players of the Game
Four different Blue Hose collected hits, with Presley Bissett, Madison Longanecker, Kylie Young, and Courtney White, all getting on base. Katie Brown (6-10) started for PC, going 5.0 innings with four earned runs and seven hits. Natasha Sherrod went 0.2 innings and gave up two runs off two hits.
Zavodny, Robertson, and See led the Flames with two hits each, with Taylor and See pacing the squad with two RBI apiece. Kenzie Friesen (9-1) went 4.1 innings in her start for Liberty, surrendering four hits and no runs, while striking out five. Julia DiMartino came in relief, giving up four hits and no runs, with three strikeouts.
PC finished with no runs off four hits, while recording two errors and leaving five on base. Liberty posted eight runs off nine hits, stranding two runners.
For the Record
PC drops to 14-25 overall and 3-7 in the league, while Liberty improves to 24-16, 8-2.
PC takes on the Flames in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., with the first game being televised on ESPN3.
