East Tennessee State snapped a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the 3-2 win over the Presbyterian College softball team in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader in Johnson City, Tenn. The Bucs scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win game two, 5-4.
Players of the Game
Leading in hits for ETSU in game one were Tiffany Laughren and Quinn Giesick with two hits apiece. Kelsey Chernak finished the game with a team-leading two RBI. Megan Anderson was tops in hits and RBI with two each, while Madison Longanecker recorded two hits as well.
Leading PC in hits were Jonnie Petree and Kelsie Sanchez, each with two hits. Hope Rogers had one hit and a team-leading two RBI. Eight different Bucs posted a hit apiece, with Toler pacing the team with two RBI.
In game one the Bucs won off three runs, nine hits, and one error, while stranding seven. PC posted its two runs off seven hits and no errors. The Blue Hose left eight on base. Madison Ogle (6-7) pitched the entire game for ETSU, surrendering seven hits and two earned runs, with four strikeouts. Alex Cook (2-7) gave up three earned runs off nine hits, while striking out one.
Game two saw PC finish with four runs and six hits, while ETSU recorded five runs off eight hits, with one error. Both teams stranded three runners apiece. Cook came in relief for 1.0 inning (2-8) and gave up one run off four hits. Fadnek went just 1.0 inning for the win (3-3), striking out one and giving up no runs and no hits.
Scoring the Games
ETSU recorded a run in each of the opening two innings of game one, with RBI singles from Danielle Knoetze and Chernak. PC answered in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run from Anderson, her team-leading fourth of the season, to tie the game at 2-2. It was Chernak again for the Bucs, her sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth giving the Blue Hose the final 3-2 win.
PC took an early lead in game two off a sacrifice bunt from Rogers. It was short-lived as Knoetze tied the game in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left. The Bucs added two insurance runs off a Kylie Toler two-RBI double in the bottom of the second. The Blue Hose used a RBI double by Rogers, a sacrifice fly by Anderson, and a RBI bunt by Sanchez to spot a three-run sixth inning and take the 4-3 lead. ETSU came back in the bottom of the frame with a RBI double by Giesick. Mykeah Johnson won the game for the Bucs in the bottom of the seventh with a RBI single to give ETSU the 5-4 win.
For the Record
PC drops to 12-23, while East Tennessee State improves to 14-16.
PC is home April 1-2, against Charleston Southern, with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch for both days is at 1 p.m.
