A four-run third inning helped propel the Presbyterian College softball team to the 7-0 win over South Carolina State in its final game of the Willie Jewell’s Invitational held in Charleston, S.C.
Players of the Game
Several Blue Hose collected multiple hits with Blaire Miller and Megan Anderson going three-for-four, with Miller leading the team with three RBI. Presley Bissett, Madison Longanecker, and Lindsay Harris each recorded two hits on the afternoon. Also picking up a RBI apiece were Jonnie Petree, Hope Rogers, Longanecker, and Harris.
Scoring the Game
PC opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, with Madison Longanecker’s single up the middle bringing in Presley Bissett, who had reached base off a single the batter before.
After a quiet second inning, PC scored four in the bottom of the third, the first two off a double from Blaire Miller. A RBI single from Jonnie Petree and a RBI walk from Hope Rogers, with bases loaded, brought in the other two to give PC the 5-0 lead.
A RBI single by Lindsay Harris in the bottom of the sixth gave PC the 6-0 lead, with Miller giving the Blue Hose a 7-0 lead with a RBI bunt single. That would be it for the scoring as PC would come away with the 7-0 win.
PC collected 15 hits for seven runs, with no errors, while the Bulldogs scored no runs and had two hits and one error.
Kaylee Allen moved to 2-2 on the year, striking out seven and giving up two hits and no runs. Jada Lake dropped to 0-7, going 1.1 innings and surrendering five runs off five hits. Whitney Gaylor came in relief for 4.2 innings, surrendering 10 hits and six runs.
The Blue Hose have collected at least five hits in the last four games, with the 15 in this game a season high. The seven RBI Sunday were also a season-high.
For the Record
PC improves to 5-9 on the season, while S.C. State drops to 0-12.
PC heads to Orangeburg, S.C., Feb. 28, to take on S.C. State at 2 p.m.
