CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College fell to Texas Rio Grande Valley 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Martin Stadium. PC had two penalty kicks saved in the second half that had the possibility to tie the score.
The Blue Hose men’s soccer team dropped to 0-4-0 on the season, while the Vaqueros improved to 2-2-1 on the year.
Neither squad scored in the first half, while the Blue Hose owned a 14-13 shots advantage, but Rio Grande Valley held an 8-5 shots on goal advantage for the game.
Stephen Huppe (Maggie Valley, N.C.) took a shot in the 79th minute that clinked off the crossbar for the Blue Hose.
Carlos Acevedo collected his second goal of the season in the 62nd minute when he took a shot 18-yards off that deflected off a Blue Hose defender and found the back of the net. UTRGV scored again in the 87th minute when Isidro Martinez got behind PC defenders and beat the goalie in the 18-yard box.
PC had penalty kicks saved in the 79th and 90th minute.
Johnny Archer (Charlotte, N.C.) collected six saves for the third time this season for PC.
Presbyterian travels to Mercer 5 p.m. Friday in Macon, Ga.
