Men's Soccer Hosts Davidson in Friday Night Matchup
CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's soccer team (1-6-0) returns to Edens Field to take on Southern Conference opponent Davidson (3-2-1) in a Friday night primetime matchup on the Big South Network presented by State Farm. The Blue Hose look to grab their first non-conference win against a streaking Wildcats squad on a three-match win streak.
Davidson brings a 3-2-1 record to Laurens County after rain moved a scheduled Wednesday game against No. 3 North Carolina to October 9. Despite starting the season with an 0-2-1 record, the Wildcats have won their last three against Richmond (2-1), USC Upstate (4-3) and ETSU (2-1) and are led by Andrew Dilallo and Valeriy Sviderskly's three goals each.
The Blue Hose will look for their first-ever win against Davidson, trailing in the all-time series by a count of 0-6-0. The two teams played in three straight meetings from 1979 through 1981 before renewing the series in 2008. Davidson earned a 5-1 in the last matchup in 2010.
A strong second half from PC fell short as the Blue Hose fell to Air Force on Sunday afternoon, 2-0. PC matched Air Force in overall shots, with 16, thanks to a second half that saw the Blue Hose outshoot the Falcons by an 11-5 tally. PC also earned four corner kicks to Air Force's one in the final frame.
Ignacio Monchetti, Jonny Mercado lead the team with each scoring one goal on the season, while Greg White has the team's lone assist. Tyler Beadle has started all seven games in net, sporting a 2.21 GAA and averaging 6.28 saves per game.
PC hosts Georgia Southern on Wednesday in the team's non-conference finale. The Blue Hose then hit the road to face nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina to play their first Big South opponent since August 28 against Longwood.
