Football Prepares to Open 2012 Preseason

Presbyterian College football players report to campus Wednesday, Aug. 1, in preparation for the start of preseason practice on Thursday.

Players will spend Wednesday moving in to their dorms, getting health screens and physicals, meeting with the coaches and staff and getting their last bit of rest before Thursday.

"I'm excited about getting started," said Head Coach Harold Nichols, who begins his fourth season leading the Blue Hose. "We've had a really good winter and summer, as well as a good spring practice.  It'll be good to get everyone back on campus and start preparing for the 2012 football season.  We're ready to get back to work; we're through with our pre-planning stages as a coaching staff.  We're looking forward to preparing to play Brevard, seeing how our football team will gel together and seeing the leadership of the team come to the forefront."

The Blue Hose will practice in helmets the first two days, 6:40 p.m. Thursday and Friday, before moving up to shells on Saturday and Sunday (2:40 and 2:15 p.m., respectively).  Monday's 6:40 p.m. practice will be the first for the team in full pads.

The team will practice Tuesday, August 7 at 6:40, before hitting the fields again at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.  With no practice scheduled Thursday, Aug. 9, due to PC summer school exams, the Blue Hose will pick back up with a 2:45 p.m. session Friday.

The first scrimmage of the preseason takes place at New Bailey Stadium Saturday, Aug. 11 at 12 p.m.

The Blue Hose begin two-a-days Monday the 13th with practice #10 at 8:15 a.m. and #11 at 6:45 p.m. The football team will conclude preseason with Fan Day Saturday, Aug. 18.

Fan Day will be held at 10:00 a.m. the 18th, with gates opening at 9 a.m. at New Bailey Stadium.  Aside from the scrimmage, there will be many activities for fans, including an autograph session by the players.  More details, including a schedule of events, to be released later.

All practices, unless otherwise noted, will be held at the football practice fields adjacent to the Templeton Center tennis courts and will be open to the public.
