Presbyterian College Head Football Coach Harold Nichols announced today that Offensive Coordinator Todd Varn has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, effective immediately.

"I am very fortunate to have Coach (Todd) Varn leading our young men and our program," said Coach Nichols.  "This promotion reflects his dedication and commitment to Presbyterian College.  He is an excellent football coach and administrator, and is a tremendous leader of the young men on the team."

Varn, who is in second year back at PC after previously serving the Blue Hose from 2005 - 2006, led the offense to third in the Big South in scoring and total offense, as well second in rushing in 2011.

Under Varn's guidance, PC had two players named to the Big South Offensive All-Conference team (Max Travis and Lance Byrd) this past season, as well as two league Freshmen-of-the-Week honorees in Demarcus Rouse and Jeremiah McKie,

"Now in his second year back with the program, the experience and leadership he has brought to the table has been impressive. Aside from his role as an offensive coordinator, he will be given additional administrative duties."

Prior to re-joining PC in 2011, Varn was the Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Newberry.  In 2010, the Wolves were ranked 24th in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 35 points per game.  The team finished second in the South Atlantic Conference in 2009 in total offense.

As an offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and running backs coach at Charleston Southern from 1999 to 2001, Varn saw his team average 345 yards a game and set the record for most wins in a season in 1999 and 2000.

From 2002-2005 Varn was at Western Carolina University, serving as running backs coach from 02-03 and Offensive Coordinator from 03-05.  In 2003 the Catamounts led the Southern Conference in total offense with 226 yards per game.

The Blue Hose open the 2012 season Sept. 1 against Brevard at Bailey Memorial Stadium.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
