CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College Director of Athletics Brian Reese is
pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Smith to Senior Associate Athletics
Director.
"Mike did a terrific job as Interim Athletic Director for Presbyterian
College," Reese said. "He has helped the department thrive during the
transition and I am looking forward to working with him. Mike has worked
closely with virtually every part of the athletic department and is a huge
asset for PC."
Smith, now in his ninth year at PC, took over the interim duties for Dr.
Carlton, who resigned in December 2009. Smith helped guide the department until
the hiring of Reese, who began July 1.
From 2002-2005, Smith was the professor of military science where he directed
PC's ROTC.
During his time at his alma mater, Smith was a volunteer assistant coach for
the men's basketball team. After a two year stint, he assisted the women's
basketball squad. In 2007, Smith left the sidelines to take over as the
Associate Director to help in the transition to Division I. That same year, he
stepped in to serve as the interim women's lacrosse coach, helping the team to
a .500 record.
"I look forward to continue serving Presbyterian College and our
student-athletes," Smith said. "I feel blessed to have been able to work with
the institution throughout the transition and I am excited about being a part
of PC during its time of growth."
A 1982 graduate of PC, Smith holds a B.S. in economics and business
administration and was a four-year letterwinner for the men's basketball team.
He also holds an MBA from Webster University.
