Buies Creek, N.C. – A 21-6 run over the final nine minutes of the game was enough to propel the Campbell Camels past the Blue Hose 53-40 on Tuesday night at the Gore Arena. Cortney Storey was the only player for Presbyterian in double figures as she finished with 15 points.

Storey finished the night with 15 points, a season high eight rebounds, one off her career high, four steals and four assists. Salina Virola added nine points and six rebounds.

The Blue Hose were held to just five three-point field goals, the fewest in a game since December 1 at Belmont when they also made five.

Game Story

The first five-plus minutes of the opening period was a defensive slugfest as PC led Campbell 4-3 at the opening media timeout. The offense picked up over the final 4:50 of the quarter as Campbell finished on a 12-6 run to lead 15-10 after one. A pair of Tamminen three-pointers made up the Blue Hose’s six points in this stretch.

PC scored on a Virola lay-up to pull within three at 15-12, Campbell then went on a 7-0 run over the next six minutes before a Tess Santos three ended the run making it 22-15. The Blue Hose finished on a 5-2 run went into the half trailing 24-17.

Presbyterian’s first four points of the second half came via the free throw, with 5:09 to play Virola hit a three to spark an 14-2 run by the Blue Hose. Storey finished the quarter off with a three as time expired in the quarter making it a one-point game, 32-31.

Hall opened the quarter with a reverse lay-up and-one play to give the Blue Hose their first lead since the first quarter. Campbell answered on the other end to tie it up at 34 and finish the game with a 21-6 run to win 53-40.

"I was proud of our defensive effort," said coach Todd Steelman. "Campbell made it difficult for us to get into rhythm offensively. It is important for us to knock down three-pointers and they did a great job chasing our shooters and forcing us off the three-point line."

For the Record

The Blue Hose move to 8-16 overall and 5-8 in the Big South while Campbell improves to 13-11 and 6-7 in the Big South.

Game Notes

The 41 combined first half points is the fewest in any first this season.

PC was a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe, all in the second half.

Storey had her seventh straight game with multiple steals, she now has 212 in her career, 11 shy of Dria David’s Division I record of 223.

Storey had four assists for game number 22 in a row, she now has 494 for her career and is six away from 500.
