Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (2-6-0, 0-1-0 Big South) women’s soccer team fell by a 4-1 score on Saturday afternoon at Martin Stadium to the Campbell Camels (5-4-0, 1-0-0 Big South). Alexa Genas scored all four goals for the Camels in a 21 minute period.
How it happened:
The first 35 minutes of gametime was very even between the two schools as they each had three shots and their goal keepers had a pair of saves. At the 34:51 mark of the first half Genas was able to collect a loose ball, that the Blue Hose defense was unable to get out of the box, and put it just past the arms of goal keeper Abby Jones.
Eight minutes later at the 43:08 mark Genas wound up and kicked one from about 25 yards out that went in the top of the net past where Jones could reach. The Camels would go into the half with a 2-0 lead, a 6-3 advantage in shots and 2-2 tie in corner kicks.
Campbell came out blazing in the second half as they would go up 3-0 within the first 30 seconds of the second half. Genas would take a nice double pass from Southerland and Wilcox and put the ball in the back of the net.
Almost ten minutes later Genas would find her fourth goal on an almost identical play as her third goal, this one also assisted by Southerland.
At the 65:30 mark the Blue Hose would get on the goal cutting the deficit to 4-1 as Kelsey Yeager scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Frances Whitesides, her second assist. That would be all the scoring as the remaining 25 minutes was a defensive struggle.
