Rock Hill, S.C. – A 10-2 run over the first 4:03 of the fourth quarter lifted the Blue Hose past a surging Winthrop squad by a 64-58 score on Tuesday evening at Winthrop Coliseum. Cortney Storey led a trifecta of Blue Hose players in double figures with 14 points, and seven assists. Kacie Hall and Mattie Kennedy also scored 10 on the evening.

Storey finished with 14 points and seven assists to lead PC while Kennedy recorded her second career double figure game and also added a career high nine rebounds while Hall also went for 10 points. Four other Blue Hose players finished with five or more points.
Stat of the Game
While PC only had a +1 advantage in first half turnovers the Blue Hose turned Winthrop over 13 times in the second half and finished +11 overall as they only had 11 compared to Winthrop’s 22. PC had a 27-11 advantage in points off turnovers.
Just like the first time these two teams met Winthrop led by two points at the end of one quarter, this time 19-17. Winthrop led by as many as seven at 19-12 before the Blue Hose finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to cut the Eagles lead to two.
In the second period Winthrop went up by as many as 14 at 35-21. The Blue Hose answered as Hall found Miles in the paint for an easy lay-in and then Miles found Hall for the same. Storey took her first two shots of the game inside the last three minutes of the period and made both three-point shots as she capped off the Blue Hose 10-4 run to end the half. Winthrop led 39-31 at the intermission.
PC controlled the ball in the third quarter outscoring the Eagles 18-10 on 5-11 shooting from three. With Winthrop scoring first in the period the Blue Hose went on a 9-2 run to pull within three at 43-40. Winthrop responded with a 5-1 run of its own to make it 48-41 but PC finished the quarter on an 8-1 run to tie it at 49 all after three.
The Blue Hose sank three more three-pointers and built a 59-51 lead midway through the fourth. Then they made enough free throws down the stretch to get the 64-58 win over Winthrop.
“Winthrop is a much improved team since we last faced them,” said coach Todd Steelman. “This was a battle for us. Mattie (Kennedy) really stepped up for us in the absence of Tess (Santos), and it was good to have Macee Tamminen back as well. We still have areas where we need to improve, but it is always good to get a win on the road in the Big South.”

PC gets the season sweep of Winthrop and improves to 8-14 overall and 5-6 in Big South play while Winthrop drops to 2-20, 1-10 in Big South play.
PC made 13 three-pointers and recorded 10+ three-point makes for a sixth time in seven games.
Storey finished with three made three-pointers, her season high in Big South play.
Storey recorded seven assists for a fifth straight game, and with four-plus in 20 straight games.
Kennedy scored 10 points, her second career double figure performance.
Kennedy recorded a career high nine rebounds.
Janie Miles made three-pointer number 50 this season.
Presbyterian returns home on Saturday for its home game with the Longwood Lancers. Longwood won the first meeting by a 66-56 score. Saturday is double header day as the Blue Hose men host Charleston Southern following the women’s game. The day will serve as Letterwinner’s Day as all a number of men and women alumni will be returning for the day.
