Radford hit one of two free throws with a second remaining to force overtime, and outscored the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team, 8-2, in overtime to rally back from a halftime deficit and earn the 74-68 win in Big South action Sunday afternoon in Radford, Va.  JC Younger led PC with 17 points, going five-of-eight from beyond the three-point arc.


Stat of the Game

Radford outshot the Blue Hose, 52.9%-43.9%, and recorded five more turnovers, 13-8.  PC converted those turnovers to 21 points, compared to just six from Radford.  The Highlanders held the rebounding edge, 33-30, with PC going eight-of-10 from the charity stripe, and Radford seven-of-17.

JC Younger led the Blue Hose with 17 points, helped by a five-of-eight effort from the three-point arc.  Davon Bell finished with 16 points, with Armel TeTe and Romeo Crouch pacing the team in rebounds with six apiece.  Bell added six assists.  Donald Hicks led Radford with 15 points, with Randy Phillips on top on the boards with 11.


How It Happened

The Blue Hose led most of the first half, including by six, 23-17, with 10:14 left on the clock, after a three-pointer by Romeo Crouch.  Radford responded with a 10-0 run to take a four point lead, 6:32 left.  With the Highlanders leading 30-27, at the 4:22 mark, PC outscored the home team 12-2 the next three minutes to retake the 39-32 lead, 1:33 to go.  An Ed Polite, Jr., free throw with two seconds left would make it a six-point game for PC at the break, 39-33.


Radford kept clawing its way back throughout the second half, the first 16 minutes, experiencing six ties, including at 63-63, 4:39 on the clock.  Randy Phillips put Radford up 65-63 off a lay-up at 2:51 but with just 13 seconds remaining in regulation Davon Bell came through for the Blue Hose with a three-pointer to put them up by one, 66-65.  On the next possession Phillips was fouled with a second to go and sent to the line.  He missed the first free throw but hit the second to tie the game at 66-66, and send the game to overtime.

It was all Radford in the five-minute overtime as the Highlanders outscored the Blue Hose, 8-2 in overtime to come out ahead at the end, 74-68.

The overtime game was the first since an overtime loss at Charleston Southern Feb. 4, 2017.

PC drops to 11-18 overall and 4-12 in the league, while Radford improves to 17-12, 10-6
