Clinton, S.C. – Four members of the Presbyterian College women’s tennis team were honored with Big South Postseason Awards, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Katie Thompson was named the Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year. Tracy Johnson and Sydney Patton were named first team in doubles. Thompson and Beth Taylor were named second team in doubles. Patton and Taylor were both named second team in singles. The four honorees are the most in PC Division I history.


Thompson is the program’s first conference Scholar Athlete of the Year recipient. The junior holds a perfect 4.0 GPA and is an Early Childhood Education major. She won 27 matches in the 2018-19 season, 15 in doubles action and 12 in singles play, and has a 12-3 Big South record.


The pairing of Patton and Johnson are the first Blue Hose duo to receive first team honors from the conference. The two seniors did not lose a Big South match together, earning a 5-0 record against conference foes. With all of their matches being played on court one, Patton and Johnson had a 7-3 overall record for the season.


Taylor and Thompson were PC’s winningest pairing this season. The juniors were 12-1 together on court three during the season, including 7-0 against Big South opponents. To finish out the regular season, Taylor and Thompson won nine straight matches.


Patton played all 19 of her singles matches on court one, earning 10 wins on the season. Of her 10 wins, eight came in straight sets. The senior collected three Big South victories for the year.


Taylor earned a 15-2 record overall in singles action this year and was 7-2 against Big South foes. The junior played on courts two, three, and four throughout the season. Taylor did not go to a third set in any of her wins this season.


The Blue Hose will return to action on Wednesday afternoon at the Big South Championship in Radford, Va. PC will face either #7 UNC Asheville or #10 Hampton at 12:00 p.m.
