CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team opened the 2018 season with a 7-0 victory over NC Central on Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts in Clinton, S.C. The Blue Hose win their season opener for the fifth straight season.

PC claimed the doubles points with wins on courts one and three. Beth Taylor and Brittany Nuttall opened the match with a 6-1 win at No. 2 and Caroline Ferrari and Tracy Johnson followed with a 6-2 win at No. 1 to clinch the point. NCCU avoided a sweep of doubles with a 7-6 (3) win on court two.

Singles play would go decidedly in favor of PC, as it swept all six matches. Katie Thompson got it started with a 6-0, 6-0 result on court six and fellow sophomore Taylor recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win on court four to make it a 3-0 PC lead. Johnson then clinched the PC win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court two.

Ferrari made it 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five, before rookie Samantha Calais began his collegiate career with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. Nuttall then closed it out, earning a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3) win at No. 1 to complete the 7-0 win.

The Blue Hose are back in action on Sunday, traveling to Charlotte for a 5 p.m. match.
