GREENVILLE, SC – The Presbyterian College cross country teams saw another record fall on Saturday as freshman Emily Swanigan ran a 6k of 23:30 at the Furman Cross Country Classic. Both teams finished 5th in the Division I standings.
Swanigan finished 48th overall and broke the school record by an impressive 31 seconds. Sally Hart, the previous record holder, crossed next for PC at 24:36. Denise Devaney (25:49), Ripley Fricano (25:55) and Bea DiBona (26:16) worked together for most of the race but separated over the last kilometer. Kennedy Brooks (28:07) also completed her first collegiate 6k.
Furman won the women's team title with 21 points and had the individual champion, Savannah Carnahan (20:37). Auburn (47) finished second, College of Charleston (80) third, Clemson (82) fourth and PC (145) fifth.
Furman won the men's team title with a perfect score of 15 points behind individual champion Frank Lara (24:27). Auburn (58) was second, Clemson (71) third, College of Charleston (102) fourth and PC (150) fifth.
The Blue Hose will next race at the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday, September 17, in Rock Hill, SC. The first race is at 9:00 am.
