COLUMBIA, SC – The Presbyterian College women’s cross country team finished fifth at the 2016 Carolina Challenge on Saturday. Freshman Emily Swanigan ran 19:47 to earn 26th overall and lead the Blue Hose in her first collegiate race.

Sophomore Sally Hart was next to finish for PC in a time of 20:39. Rounding out the top-5, freshman Denise Devaney (21:17) outlasted sophomore Ripley Fricano (21:38) and junior Bea DiBona (21:49).

Senior Sarah Jennings (22:46), freshman Kennedy Brooks (23:08) and senior Christin Van Hoy (24:53) also competed for the Blue Hose.

"I was very pleased with how the women's team performed," head coach Thad Palmer stated after the race. "Nearly everyone met or exceeded their goal for today. We are excited to keep training and to see what we can achieve in late October."

The Gamecocks took the title with 29 points, besting Winthrop's 53 in second. The Eagles’ Harper Henson finished first in a time of 18:36.

The Blue Hose will next race at the Furman Invitational on September 10. The women’s 6k will start at 8:30 am.
