CLINTON, SC – The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped a pair of one-run games to Campbell on Saturday at the PC Baseball Complex. In game one, the visitors took the lead off a two-run home run in the seventh inning and held on to win 7-6. In game two, it was a six-hit, four-run eighth inning that erased Campbell's three-run deficit to give them a 4-3 win. The Blue Hose move to 12-26 overall and 6-9 in the Big South, while the Camels improve to 20-16 this season and 12-3 in conference play.
How It Happened
Matthew Barefoot hit a leadoff home run to start game one and put Campbell up 1-0. The Camels would score two more runs off a triple from Ty Babin, double by Christian Jones and single from Zach Minnick, to go up 3-0.
In the fourth, Byrd singled on a bunt to the pitcher and scored Nick Wise. Guimbarda then singled to right field to score McLaughlin, but Campbell threw out Byrd at home on a perfect relay to keep the score 5-3.
In the top of the fifth, Bryce Myers tripled and scored on a single from Barefoot to cut the lead to 5-4.
In the seventh, Campbell took the lead, 6-5, on a two-run homer from Jones.
The teams would trade runs in the eighth inning. Tyler Anshaw scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth, and White scored on a single from Wise in the bottom of the eighth.
The Blue Hose would add two more runs in the seventh inning. Guy Casaceli reached on a fielding error by the shortstop and was advanced to second on a sac bunt from Andrew Bladt. The Camels then intentionally walked Guimbarda. Priaulx then delivered a two-run single to put PC up 3-0.
Campbell scored four runs on six hits in the eighth inning to take the lead. Kyle Mehl, Myers, Luis Gimenez, Babin, and Jones all singled as the Camels went up 4-3.
Pitchers of Record
Russ Branch (0-1) took the game one loss for PC. The sophomore allowed three runs on two hits and struck out one batter in 1.0 inning of relief.
Ryan Hedrick (1-2) took the game two loss for PC. The senior allowed one run on three hits over 0.2 inning.
Michael Horrell (5-1) picked up the game one win for Campbell. The starter lasted 7.0 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out three batters against one walk.
Tyson Messer pitched 1.2 innings in relief in game one to pick up his sixth save of the year. He allowed two hits and had two strikeouts against one walk.
Wes Noble (4-4) picked up the game two win for Campbell. He threw 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.
Matthew Barefoot came on in relief the ninth inning of game two for Campbell to record his second save of the season. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
Jonathan White went 2-for-5 in game one to record his team-best 18th multi-hit game of the season.
AJ Priaulx went 4-for-6 on the day to set a new career-best for hits in a season (63).
The Blue Hose will travel to play at South Carolina on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
