PC Notables
• PC opened the season with a true road series for the first time since 2013. That year, PC opened with a four-game series at Savannah State to start the season as a part of a nine-game road trip.
• The Blue Hose earned its fourth win over an SEC opponent on Sunday and its first since defeating South Carolina, 7-4, in 2015.
• PC entered 2017 having reached 27 wins in each of the last two seasons, the high-water mark for wins in PC’s Division I era (since 2008).
• The Blue Hose also set a program record with 12 Big South wins last season en route to its first appearance in the Big South Tournament.

Scouting Furman
• Furman opened the season taking two of three at home against Dayton, scoring at least nine runs in all three games.
• The Paladins are batting .343 after the first weekend of play with with eight doubles, seven home runs and 29 runs scored. Brandon Elmy leads the way with a .615 average, going 8-for-13 with two doubles, two homers, four runs and five RBIs.
• On the bump, FU compiled a 5.33 ERA across its first three games, allowing 16 earned runs in 27.0 innings of work.

Scouting Wofford
• Wofford opened the season with a series loss to Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla., taking the middle game of the series, 3-2.
• The Terriers batted .202 as a team to start the season with just five extra-base hits. Alex Malsch leads Wofford with a .444 average (4-for-9) after three games, while three players tied for the team lead in RBIs with 3.
• The Wofford pitching staff managed a 7.92 ERA in the opening weekend, allowing 22 earned runs in 25.0 innings of action.

Weyenberg, Smith Key PC to First Win
• PC’s first win of the season came in dramatic fashion on Sunday, as senior captain Tyler Weyenberg hit a go-ahead solo home run in to the right field stands to put PC in front for good, 4-3. The homer was Weyenberg’s only hit of the game and just the fourth homer of his career.
Will Smith also came through in the clutch, shutting down Alabama in the final 2.2 innings of the game and allowing just one hit with one strikeout against a pair of walks. It was the first career appearance for Smith at PC, who earned the victory.

Guimbarda Off to Hot Start
Nick Guimbarda led PC with a nice weekend at the plate, going 4-for-8 with a double and two RBIs. The sophomore had a hit in each game of the series and recorded an RBI in each of the final two games.
• The second-year player showed good situational hitting, laying down a sac bunt on Friday that set up a pair of PC runs. He drove in the lone PC run on Saturday, before giving the team a 3-2 lead on Sunday with an RBI single.

Bullpen Shuttin’ It Down
• The PC bullpen stood its ground over the weekend, allowing just two runs in 11.0 innings of work for a 1.64 ERA. Nine different relievers combined to allow nine hits with eight strikeouts against four walks.
• The pen held opposing hitters to a .225 clip in the three games and did not allow any extra-base hits in the series.

Newcomers Busy on Opening Weekend
• PC saw plenty of new faces take the field over the weekend with six players seeing their first action with the squad.
Thatcher Coleman, who sat out last season after transferring to PC, started all three games behind the plate and collect a base hit in his first at-bat at PC.
Andrew Bladt also started each of the three games over the weekend at shortstop.
Jackson Dean, Ryan Hall, Connor Jahn and Will Smith each made their first appearances for the Blue Hose, all coming in relief. All four recorded a scoreless outing in their first action at PC.
