Allie Wright tied her career-high with 17 kills, while Erin Eulitz added 13, to lead the Presbyterian College volleyball team to the 3-1 win over Charleston Southern in the Big South opener Tuesday night in Clinton, S.C. PC won the first set, 26-24, but dropped the second18-25. The Blue Hose rebounded with a 25-23 and 25-16 win in the third and fourth sets.
Scoring the Match
A three-point deficit early in the first set for the Blue Hose turned into a 19-14 lead off an 11-3 run, capped by Eulitz kill. CSU used a 7-2 run to tie it at 23-23. Tied again at 24-24, PC used an Ashton Stewart block and a CSU attack error to survive for the 26-24 win.
A close second set throughout, PC and CSU were tied at 12-12 before the Bucs outscored the Blue Hose 10-6, to take a 22-16 lead. PC cut the margin to five at 23-18, but back to back kills gave the Bucs the 25-18 win.
The third set saw 10 ties, with CSU snapping a 14-14 deadlock with a 6-2 run to take a 20-16 lead. Four straight by PC, which included back to back kills by Wright, knotted the set again at 20-20. Tied at 21-21, two CSU errors and a Eulitz kill gave PC set point, 24-21. The Bucs got two more points but Wright stopped the rally with a kill to give PC the 25-23 win.
The Blue Hose opened the fourth set strong, building a 14-6 lead. Three straight by the Bucs made it 14-9, but an 8-3 Blue Hose run extended the lead to 10, 22-12. CSU rallied to within eight but it was PC on top at the end, 25-16.
CSU was led by Kalysia Bates with 15 kills, and Madison Martin with 20 digs.
Stat of the Match
An even-played match, stats-wise, PC came away with two more kills, 49-47, and three less errors, 28-31. The Blue Hose held the .123-.097 advantage in attack percentage, with total blocks even at 10 apiece.
The 171 attempts is fourth in the PC Division I record book for attempts in four sets, while the 79 digs tied for seventh.
Erin Eulitz’s 51 attempts tied for eighth in the record book in attempts in four sets.
Sydney De Jong posted a career-high 29 attacks and four blocks.
Taylor Farmer recorded a career-best 13 digs.
Caroline Henderson finished with a career-high 21 digs.
