Freshman Allie Wright added eight kills, while sophomore Erin Eulitz recorded six in a 3-0 loss to George Mason in the final game of the Benson Hospitality Invitational held Aug. 25-26, in Athens, Ga.  George Mason won by scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-14.

Scoring the Match

George Mason stormed out to a 7-2 lead early in the first set before the Blue Hose rallied to within three at 12-9.  The Blue Hose cut the lead to three again at 14-11, but GMU used a 6-3 run to extend the margin to 20-14.  George Mason scored the set’s next five of nine points to take the 25-18 win.  A close second set throughout, PC trailed GMU by only two, 22-20, after having led 17-14 earlier in the set.  George Mason used a 3-1 run to take the eventual 25-21 win, however.  GMU went on an 11-3 run to extend a 14-11 lead in the third set to a 25-14 win to take the match victory. 

Player of the Match

Leading the way on offense for PC was Wright with her eight kills and just three errors for her .185 hitting percentage.  Daley Gosnell led the team in digs with 15, with Caroline Henderson close behind with 14.  Jaclyn Brewington paced the Blue Hose in assists with 16.

Stat of the Match

PC finished with 27 kills off 124 attacks for a .105 hitting percentage.  The Blue Hose posted 25 assists and 61 digs.  George Mason recorded 43 kills and a .170 hitting percentage.  Blocks were a difference maker with GMU scoring 7.0 blocks, including 14 block assists.  PC finished with 3.0.


The 61 digs tied for 10th in the PC Division I record book, while the 124 attempts was 16th.
