The UNC Asheville volleyball team rallied from down two sets to win a decisive fifth set, 15-8, and earn the 3-2 victory over Presbyterian College in Big South volleyball action Tuesday evening in Asheville, N.C. PC took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18, but dropped the next two, 25-13, 25-16.


How it Happened
Down 10-11, PC went on a 10-4 run to build a 20-15 lead in the first set. Asheville cut the margin to 20-18, but it was PC with the next five of seven points to take the 25-20 win. The Blue Hose led 10-5 early in the second set, extending it to 21-13 before the Bulldogs made it a five-point margin, 23-18, off a 5-2 run. PC took the next two to win 25-18.

UNC Asheville stormed out of the gates in the third set to lead 12-4. PC cut into the margin on several occasions but could not overcome the deficit, falling by 25-13. Much of the same in the fourth set, Asheville took a 14-4 lead, before PC cut the lead to seven at 18-11. The Blue Hose made it a seven-point set several more times but it was UNC Asheville that came out on top, 25-17, to force a fifth set.

PC opened the fifth set with a 7-3 lead, but Asheville rattled off six unanswered to take a 9-7 lead. PC made it 9-8, but that was the last point for the visitors as the Bulldogs took the final six points to win the set, 15-8, and the match.

Players of the Matches
Sierra Davis led a group of three Blue Hose with double-digit kills with 18. Samantha Del Toro added 12, with Erin Eulitz adding 11. Sara Rogers recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 digs and 46 assists, just three from her career-high. Mikayla Register tied her career-high with 27 digs.

Shelby Erickson led Asheville with 17 kills and 21 digs.

Stats of the Match
UNC Asheville posted a .248 hitting percentage, compared to .101 for PC, with the Blue Hose holding the kill advantage, 57-54. Asheville posted twice as many kills, 12-6. A tale of two matches, PC recorded a .516 hitting percentage in the second set but hit negative in two of the next three sets. After the first set, Asheville hit over .226 in the next three of four.

Record
PC drops to 4-17 overall and 2-5 in the Big South, while Asheville improves to 10-10, 4-5.
