The Presbyterian College volleyball team rounded out the regular season with a 3-0 loss at Winthrop Friday evening. The Eagles took the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-15.
PC finishes the season 4-24 overall and 2-12 in the Big South, while Winthrop improves to 13-17, 7-7.
Winthrop posted 40 kills and 11 errors for a .319 hitting percentage, while PC had 23 kills and 16 errors for a .080 percentage.
Ashton Stewart led the Blue Hose in kills with seven, followed by Samantha Del Toro and Halle Tripp with four apiece. Tripp finished with 13 digs, with Sara Rogers adding 19 assists. The Blue Hose had four total blocks with Martina Shamley on top with two solo blocks and one block assist.
The Eagles were paced by Nikki Drost and her nine kills. Madilyn McCarty added 34 assists, while Carlie Skelton posted 11 digs.
Winthrop led by just three, 17-14, in a first set, but outscored the Blue Hose, 8-3 down the stretch, to take the 25-17 win.
Down by seven, 13-20, in the second set, PC scored three in a row off two kills and a Mikayla Register ace to make it a four-point affair, 16-20. The Eagles took four of the set’s next six points to build a 24-18 lead. PC got two points back off kills from Sierra Davis and Rogers but could not overcome the Eagles to fall 20-25.
Winthrop opened an 11-point gap early in the third set, highlighted by a 7-0 run that saw the Eagles go from 9-5 to 16-5. PC shipped away at the lead, making it a seven-point contest, 11-18 off a 4-0 run, but could not get any closer, falling by the final, 15-25 score.
