CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team took the doubles point and the first three singles matches of the day to clinch 4-0, before ultimately topping South Carolina State, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts in Clinton, S.C. PC improves to 7-8 on the year, while the Bulldogs drop to 3-7.
PC opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. Ben Kelley and Joel Roberts picked up a 7-5 win on court one to record their 10th victory on the season. Diego Manzanas and Jaime Castillo-Lopez teamed up for their 10th win of the season as well, recording 6-4 win at No. 3.
In singles, the two teams would split the six matches with PC taking the first three to clinch the victory. Kelley got it started with another straight sets win, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4. Roberts followed with a 6-4, 6-3 on on court six and Alexander Lykou clinched it with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court one to make it a 4-0 lead. The remaining three matches all went to three sets but turned SC State’s way.
PC returns to action against Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
