UNF broke a scoreless deadlock with a run in the fourth to edge the Presbyterian College softball team, 1-0, in the second game of the day at the Osprey Classic/Jacksonville Invitational, being held Mar. 2-4, in Jacksonville, Fla.  Middle Tennessee State used three runs in the first inning to come away with the 4-0 win over the Presbyterian College softball team in the first game.


MTSU 4, PC 0

Middle Tennessee State struck first, with A sacrifice bunt by Morgan Harris bringing in the first run.  A wild pitch scored the second with a RBI fielder’s choice by Claire Smith making it a 3-0 game after the first inning.  A RBI single by Sumer Burgess in the fourth gave MTSU the 4-0 lead.


Jonnie Petree and Grace Wallace collected a hit apiece for PC, with Petree posting a single in the first, and Wallace recording one in the seventh.  Burgess went two-for-two with one RBI to lead Middle Tennessee State.  Alex Cook (0-3) took the loss for PC, going 6.0 innings and giving up three earned runs and five hits.  Cori Jennings (5-3) went 5.0 innings for MTSU, surrendering no runs off one hit, with six strikeouts.  Gretchen Greer came in relief for 2.0 innings, striking out four, while allowing one hit.


PC finished with no runs off two hits, with two errors, while MTSU posted four runs off five hits and no errors.


UNF 1, PC 0

While both teams combined for 11 hits, runs were hard to come by as PC stranded four runners, UNF six.  The lone run came in the fourth inning with a RBI double from Ashley Niesman, who plated Tiffany Lower, who was on base off a single.


Five different players collected singles for PC, with Petree, Chelsea Lyons, Megan Anderson, Lyndsay Harris, and Presley Bissett each getting on base off singles.  Navia Penrod and Lower led UNF with two hits apiece.  Kaylee Allen (0-7) went 6.0 innings for PC, giving up one run off six hits, with three strikeouts.  Blanchard (3-0) took the win for UNF, surrendering no runs off five hits, with six strikeouts.


PC collected five hits and had no errors, while UNF recorded a run off six hits, with two errors.


For the Record

PC drops to 1-13 on the year, while Middle Tennessee State improves to 12-5, and UNF moves to 10-8.

The Blue Hose continue action in the Osprey Classic/Jacksonville Invitational, taking on Virginia Tech and Jacksonville at 12 p.m., and 5 p.m., Saturday on the campus of Jacksonville University.  The Blue Hose round out tournament play against Middle Tennessee State again Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
