Presley Bissett hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally the Presbyterian College softball team to a 4-3 win in game one of a home doubleheader with Youngstown State Tuesday afternoon in Clinton, S.C. The Penguins scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and earn the 4-2 win in game two.

Blue Hose Players of the Games
Rebekka Gross, Kelsie Sanchez, Madison Longanecker, and Jonnie Petree each recorded two hits apiece in doubleheader action, withGross, Sanchez, and Hope Rogers picking up a RBI each. Presley Bissett led the day in RBI with three, off her one hit.

How It Happened
PC scored first in game one, with a Rebekka Gross sacrifice fly in the second inning. The Penguins responded in the fourth with a three-run home run by Stevie Taylor, to take the 3-1 lead. PC led off the bottom of the seventh with a double by Blaire Miller and a single from Casey Gerhard. Two batters later Presley Bissett, coming in as a pinch hitter, sails her first career home run over the left field wall to give the Blue Hose the come-from=behind 4-3 win.

A bases loaded hit by pitch to Taylor gave YSU the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two. Kelsie Sanchez hit a double in her first at bat in the bottom of the first, with Hope Rogers bringing her home off a groundout to second, to tie the game at 1-1. YSU picked up three runs in the fourth, the first off a RBI single from Brittney Moffatt, the second and third off a RBI triple from Alexis Gibson and a PC throwing error. PC added a second run with a solo home run by Sanchez, her first of the season, but that would be the last hit for PC as the Penguins came away with the 4-2 win.

Final Lines
Game 1: PC 4, YSU 3
PC recorded four runs off seven hits, with no errors, while YSU had three runs off five hits and no errors. Natasha Sherrod picked up the win (1-2), going 4.0 innings and giving up just two hits and no runs, with four strikeouts. Caitlyn Minney earned the loss (1-6), going 0.1 innings and surrendering one run off one hit.

Game 2: YSU 4, PC 2
PC posted two runs off five hits and two errors, with YSU coming away with four runs off nine hits and no errors. Alex Cook took the loss (0-3), surrendering two earned runs and seven hits with three strikeouts. Minney earned the win in game two (2-6), giving up just one earned run off five hits, with four strikeouts.

For the Record
PC moves to 8-13, while Youngstown State goes to 3-13.

The Blue Hose head on the road again for their final regular season tournament March 11-12, as they take part in the Elon Phoenix Tournament in Elon, N.C. PC faces Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday at 10 a.m., before taking on Elon at 12:15 p.m. Sunday’s action sees the Blue Hose take on Fairleigh Dickinson again at 9:45 a.m., and Norfolk State at 12 p.m.
