Spartanburg, S.C. – An 8-0 Blue Hose run over a 13-minute stretch of the first half was enough to lift PC over Wofford by a 14-12 score on Saturday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium. Claire Frase and Sarah Marshall each scored three goals to lead a group of eight different Blue Hose goal scorers.
Player of the Game
Frase scored her three goals on five shots and Marshall scored three goals on eight shots. Cady Roberts finished with two goals, one assists, two groundballs and four draw controls. Taylor Johnson also had four draw controls.
Stat of the Game
Presbyterian finished with a 15-13 advantage in draw controls and were 5-8 on free position shots while holding Wofford to 3-6.
Wofford was able to jump out to a 3-1 lead in just its second lacrosse game ever but the Blue Hose responded with an 8-0 run over a 13-minute stretch giving themselves a 9-3 lead. Frase sparked the run with her first of three goals and Natalie Barnett followed her with another goal just over a minute later tying the game at 3-3. Down 9-3 Wofford was able to get back on the board with a 3-0 run to pull within three at 9-6 but PC scored with 29 seconds remaining in the first half making it 10-6 at the intermission.
Wofford started the second half on a 5-1 run to tie the game at 11-11 but Marshall started a 3-0 run by the Blue Hose making it 14-11 with just over a minute to play. Wofford scored last with 14 seconds remaining making the final of 14-12.
For the Record
The Blue Hose improve to 1-2 overall this season while Wofford drops to 0-2.
The 14 goals by the Blue Hose is the most since scoring 17 in a 17-6 win over Gardner-Webb last April.
PC was a perfect 9-9 on clears.
Marshall had a career high three goals and three points.
Roberts four draw controls is a career high.
