Clinton, S.C. – Cortney Storey scored 18 of her 20 points in the second half and the Blue Hose overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the Campbell Camels 65-59 on Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Center. Kacie Hall scored 10 of the Blue Hose 15 points in the first quarter and finished with a game and career high 23 points.
This was the first time since February 23, 2013 that the Blue Hose had two players record 20 points in the same game. Karlee Taylor and Dria David were the two Blue Hose players to each score 20 on that day.
Player of the Game
Hall finished the game with 23 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Storey did the majority of her work in the second half as she scored 20 points with five assists and four steals. The four steals tie her season high as she had four against Upstate and Liberty. She has now recorded four or more assists in 13 straight games.
Stat of the Game
PC forced Campbell into a season high 24 turnovers, the Blue Hose had a season high 14 steals as a team. They used those steals and turned them into a 23-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
Hall got the scoring started for the Blue Hose with a three and scored 10 first quarter points. Neither team led by more than three points at any point in the quarter and Campbell led 16-15 after one. Campbell turned the ball over 16 times in the first half but shot 76.0 percent from the field when it did not turn the ball over. The Camels built a nine-point lead at half in large part due to shooting 7-9 from three. Hall finished the half with 13 points, while Storey dished out three assists and grabbed two thefts.
The third quarter started off slow for both teams as a layup by Hall was the only basket for the first three minutes. A three ball by Campbell’s Caroline Bowns made it a 10-point game with 7:04 to play in the third. Campbell maintained an 8-11-point lead until the 2:33 mark of the third period. Macee Tamminen made a three-pointer that sparked 10-4 Blue Hose run over the final two and a half minutes. Storey scored seven of those 10 points including the last coming on a lay-up with six seconds remaining in the period to make it a 49-45 game.
With 8:10 to play Campbell hit a lay-up to go up five at 53-48, over the next two minutes the Blue Hose went on a 7-0 run and took the lead for the first time since the 1:08 mark of the first period when they led 15-14. Storey had scored 12 points in a row for the Blue Hose before a three by Hall that tied the game at 53-53, once the Blue Hose took the lead in the fourth they never gave it up down the stretch. The closest Campbell got was 61-59 with 1:00 to play. Storey and Hall closed out the game with a pair of lay-ups to make the final score of 65-59.
“I am so proud of the way our team responded defensively in the second half,” said coach Todd Steelman. “When we are connected and play that way, we can be a difficult matchup. We did not fix our problems today but we definitely saw progress. Kacie (Hall) and Cortney (Storey) were huge for us, and when they play that way it puts a lot of pressure on the defense and creates shots for their teammates, too. Just an overall excellent team win.”

The Blue Hose improve to 4-11, 1-3 in the Big South while Campbell drops to 9-6, 2-2 in Big South play.
PC forced Campbell into a season high 24 turnovers, those turnovers resulted in 23 Blue Hose points.
This was the fifth time a Blue Hose opponent turned the ball over more than 20 times.
Presbyterian recorded a season high 14 steals, four different players recorded multiple steals. 14 steals tie for the sixth most steals in a single game for PC.
PC made nine three-pointers and continues to lead the Big South with 8.3 made threes per game.
This was the first time since February 23, 2013 that the Blue Hose had two individuals reach 20 points in the same game. Hall had 23 while Storey had 20. Dria David and Karlee Taylor were the last combo to achieve the feat.
The 23 points was a career high for Hall. She breaks her previous high of 19 that she set last week at Longwood.
Storey scored 20 points for the sixth time this season breaking her own record of five 20-point games in a season.
Storey kept her streak of game with four-plus assists alive as she had five, the streak is now at 13.
Storey also tied her season high of four steals, this was the third time this season. Storey now has 187 steals for her career, needing just 13 to become the first Blue Hose Division I era player to score 1,000 points, and record 400+ assists and 200+ steals.
Janie Miles scored nine points in the game and now has 921 for her career.
Salina Virola recorded a team high six rebounds, this is her season high.
PC finishes its two game home stand with Gardner-Webb visiting on Tuesday night. The Blue Hose own a 33-15 all-time record against the Runnin’ Bulldogs and won both meetings in 2016-17.
