Down 2-1, Liberty rallied with a fourth and fifth set win to earn the 3-2 victory over the Presbyterian College volleyball team in Big South action Friday evening at Templeton Center. The Flames won set one, 25-16, before PC took the next two 25-22, and 25-21. Liberty picked up the 25-14 and 15-5 wins in the fourth and fifth sets. Martina Shamley paced the Blue Hose with a career-high 14 kills, with Sierra Davis hitting a team-leading .242.

How it Happened
Tied 7-7 early in the first set, Liberty outscored PC 14-4, behind two kills and three blocks from Sirena Vorster, to build a 21-11 lead. Down 24-14, PC staved off two set points with kills by Ashton Stewart, but it would not be enough as Leah Clayton’s third kill of the match ended the potential rally at 25-16.

PC opened the second set with a 7-3 run, before Liberty cut the margin to two at 11-9. Both teams traded points with the Flames tying the set at 15-15 off a Clayton kill. Erin Eulitz responded with her fourth kill to give PC the one-point advantage. Eulitz added an ace to make it 19-18, before the Flames cut it back to one with a kill and PC attack error. The Flames cut the margin to one at 22-21, PC answered with a Martina Shamley kill for the two-point lead again. Ahead 24-22, Shamley came through with her seventh kill of the match to take the 25-22 set two win.

A close third set early, PC turned an 8-8 tie into a 13-9 lead, helped in part to two kills from Shamley and a block from Eulitz. Liberty clawed back to take the 18-15 lead off a 7-0 run, capitalizing on three PC attack errors. The Blue Hose used kills by Samantha Del Toro and Sara Rogers to tie the match at 19-19. A Liberty error and a block assist from Ashton Stewart and Sierra Davis made it 21-19 in favor of the home team. Leading 24-21, a Liberty error sealed the 25-21 win for PC.

Liberty scored the first six points of the fourth set, building a 13-4 lead before PC cut the margin to seven off a Eulitz kill. The Flames responded with four straight, eventually extending the lead to 22-8. Trailing 24-10, PC scored four unanswered off kills from Davis, Shamley, and Eulitz to make it 24-14. Gabrielle Vess finished off the set with a kill as Liberty took the 25-14 victory to force a fifth set.

Tied 4-4 at the beginning of the fifth set, Liberty rattled off eight straight, helped by two kills from Vess. Shamley stopped the rally with her 14th kill of the night, but it was Liberty with the final three points to take the fifth set and match with the 15-5 win.

Players of the Match
Martina Shamley led a group of three Blue Hose with double-digit kills with her career-high 14. Sierra Davis followed with 12, with Erin Eulitz adding 10. Sara Rogers added 35 assists, 12 digs, and two service aces, while Mikayla Register posted 13 digs. Davis paced PC in hitting percentage with .242, collecting just four errors in five sets of action.

Leah Clayton led Liberty wit h17 kills, with Anna Wiley posting 51 assists. Sirena Vorster recorded one block solo and seven block assists.

Stats of the Match
Liberty finished with a .223 hitting percentage, which included a .370 in the first set, .310 in the fourth, and a .375 in the fifth. PC posted a .087, but was .256 in the second set win. The Flames recorded 16 total blocks, compared to six for PC, but had just three fewer errors, 26-29.

Notables
The career-high 57 attacks by Erin Eulitz is tied for second in the PC Division I record book for total attacks in five sets, and tied for third in attempts overall. The match marked the third five-set affair for PC this season, with the Blue Hose now 0-3. The Blue Hose played in three last season, going 1-2.

Record
PC drops to 3-16 overall and 1-4 in the conference, while Liberty improves to 10-9, 5-2.
