SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Presbyterian College cross country teams competed at the Asheville Cross Country Challenge at the Asheville Christian Academy on Saturday morning. The women finished 8th while the men finished 12th.

Emily Swanigan (20:07) and Sally Hart (20:22) led the way for PC for the fourth time this season. Next was a group of Blue Hose with Ripley Fricano (21:10) coming in before Sarah Jennings (21:32), Denise Devaney (21:33) and Bea DiBona (21:41). Kennedy Brooks (23:50), Lacey Hornaday (24:41) and Christin Van Hoy (25:09) also competed for PC.

High Point won the women’s 5k with a team total of 57 points. Campbell’s Joan Maritim ran 17:46 to win the race by 47 seconds.

Preston Meade (27:14) and Duncan Gotfredson (28:10) led the men’s team on a slightly adjusted men’s 8k course from a year ago. Chris Sacco (30:06) returned after missing the last race and out paced Reid Haigler (30:29). Alex Johnson (31:18) and Jake Birdsong (31:55) also competed for PC.

Mars Hill’s David Jones was the first collegiate finisher in a time of 25:38 and led his team to the win with a low score of 55 points.

The Blue Hose will next race at the Front Runner Invitational in Chattanooga, TN, on the afternoon of October 15.
