San Diego, Calif. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (0-1) fell to the San Diego State Aztecs (1-0) by a 77-50 score on Friday afternoon despite a game high 22 points from senior guard Cortney Storey. Kacie Hall also added 13 points and a team high five assists and four steals for the Blue Hose.

Storey finished the first game of her senior season with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists. This was her seventh career 20-point effort as she had five such games in 2016-17 and one as a freshman in 2014-15.
Hall got her sophomore season started off on a high note as she recorded career highs in points (13) and assists (5), she also tied her career high in steals (4).
The Aztecs used a great perimeter game to pull away from PC as they connected on 8-13 three-point shots in the first half. The Blue Hose came out with a more aggressive defensive approach in the third period as they held San Diego State without a three-point make.
How it happened:
San Diego State got off to a quick start hitting their first three three-point attempts, Ericka Blackwell-Boyden scored the first two points of the season for the Blue Hose who trailed 9-2 as PC called a timeout at the 8:02 mark.
Coming out of the break Storey would gather her first steal of the season and lay it in for her first two points and then added another field goal cutting the Blue Hose deficit to three at 9-6. The two teams swapped free throws making it 11-8.
San Diego State would finish the first quarter on a 7-2 run to make it 18-10 after the first period of play.
Both team opened up the pace on the offensive end to start the second quarter as the teams hit four straight three point attempts as the Aztecs opened up a 26-16 lead before the two teams missed. A Thorderson three-point make made it 32-19 and started a 9-2 run for San Diego State that gave them their largest lead at 17. Following a 6-0 run for PC over a three-minute stretch the Aztecs would respond with a 4-0 run to make it 42-27 lead at the intermission.
Hall would hit a jump shot to start the second half and followed that up with a steal and assist as Storey hit a lay-up to cut the deficit to 11. San Diego State would go on a 16-8 run to lead by their largest margin of 19 points at the end of the third. Storey would score nine of her 22 points in the third quarter all in a row.
San Diego State started the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run before the Blue Hose snapped that with a made free throw. That free throw made the score 69-40, the Blue Hose would score 10 points over the final 4:39 to make the final 77-50.
“I thought it was an important first step for our team,” said coach Todd Steelman. “There's a level of competitive effort that we need from everyone on our roster, and this gave us an opportunity to see where we are in that spectrum. I was pleased with Cortney's performance, not only statistically, but from a leadership standpoint. We have work to do, but we have a group that is willing to do it.”

The Blue Hose keep their west coast road trip going with a trip up to Los Angeles to play UCLA on Sunday. This is the first meeting between the two teams.
