Jacksonville, Fla. – The Presbyterian College softball team split a pair of games at the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge on Friday. The Blue Hose earned a 10-1 victory over La Salle in the first game and fell to Jacksonville, 10-3, in the nightcap. PC is now 5-14-2 on the year.

 

Alyssa Batastini earned her fourth win of the season by pitching her fifth complete game of the year against La Salle. The redshirt junior gave up only four hits and allowed just one earned run over her seven innings of work. She also helped her own cause on offense, notching a pair of hits to go along with two RBI and two runs scored.

 

PC scored the first run of the contest when Casey Gerhard knocked in Chelsea Lyons in the top of the second. Macy Hyatt would drive in Jonnie Petree in the next frame to build a 2-0 lead for the Blue Hose. Hyatt tried to score on a Lyons single later in the inning, but was thrown out at home.

 

The Blue Hose held a 2-1 advantage heading into the sixth inning and would put up four runs. PC was able to take advantage of a pair of errors, as well as a wild pitch, to take a 6-1 lead. Ansley Wilbanks drove home a run and collected the only RBI of the inning.

 

PC plated another four in the top of the seventh. Batastini drove in Lyons and Kiley Kross, who both reached on singles. They advanced on an error after Gerhard reached on an error. Wilbanks laced a single to through the right side to score Gerhard. Hyatt finished the scoring by sending home Batastini with a single.  

 

Gerhard produced the offense for the Blue Hose against the Dolphins. She launched a three-run homer over the right center field fence in the top of the first inning, driving home Hyatt and Wilbanks.

 

Taylor Ward got the start in the circle for the Blue Hose against JU. She worked 1.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits and a walk. She was relieved by Sarah Ramsbottom, who allowed only one run on two hits and three walks in her inning of work. Courtney White pitched the final 3.2 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits.

 

The Blue Hose will return to action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. against Ball State. Live stats for tomorrow’s game can be found here.
