Madeira Beach, Fla. – The Presbyterian College softball team dropped a pair of contests in their first day of competition at the Madeira Beach Tournament. The Blue Hose fell to Chattanooga, 6-3, in their first contest and fell to Villanova, 8-0, in the second game. PC is now 4-10-2 on the season.

The Blue Hose took an early lead against the Mocs, scoring all three runs in the top of the second inning. Chelsea Lyons led off the inning by reaching base after being hit by a pitch and would advance to second on an Alyssa Batastini single. Each runner would move up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Casey Gerhard. Lindsay Harris walked to load the bases for Jonnie Petree, who drove home Lyons with a single to left. Batastini was gunned down at the plate on the play, allowing Harris and Petree to move up to third and second. Ansley Wilbanks plated the pair of runners with a single up the middle.

Batastini got the start in the circle for PC against Chattanooga. She allowed only one run on five hits in her first five innings of work. The Mocs, aided by an error and a pair of home runs, scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Batastini pitched a total of 5.2 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks. Courtney White collected the last out of the frame with a strikeout.
