CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team battled Harvard in a pair of tough games on Saturday at the PC Baseball Complex. Game one would go into extra innings with the Crimson escaping with a 7-5 win after 10 innings. Game two was called after six innings due to darkness with the Blue Hose falling 10-5. PC moves to 5-12 on the season, and Harvard improves to 6-6.
How it Happened
Harvard 7, PC 5
Game one was a low scoring affair until late. Jonathan White scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to give PC a 1-0 lead. The Blue Hose would add two runs on a pair of RBI singles by White and AJ Priaulx in the bottom of the eighth inning to go into the 9th up 3-0.
The Crimson used a PC error and hits by Jake Suddleson, Ben Skinner, Devan Peterson, and Patrick McColl to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth. PC would reply with a run in the bottom half of the ninth on a TJ Richardson double down the leftfield line to score Jack McLaughlin.
In the top of the 10th, Harvard took advantage of two walks, a hit batter, and a Buddy Mrowka RBI single to take a 7-4 lead. In the bottom of the 10th, Thatcher Coleman singled to start a PC rally. Priaulx doubled to right field to score Coleman and make the score 7-5. It was Priaulx’s fifth hit of the game and second 5-for-5 performance in the past seven days.
Harvard 10, PC 5
Hunter Bigge doubled to right center to give Harvard a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Crimson would make it 3-0 in the third after a wild pitch scored Chad Minato, and Buddy Hayward hit a sac fly to score McColl.
In the top of the fourth, Matt Rothenberg and John MacLean hit back-to-back homers to give Harvard a 5-3 lead. The visitors would add five more runs in the top of the fifth inning on three walks and three singles to make the score 10-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, Priaulx added his sixth hit of the day with a single to centerfield. McLaughlin followed with a single up the middle. Richardson and Michael Varga recorded RBI singles to make it 10-5.
The game was called after six innings, at 6:22 pm, on account of darkness.
Pitchers of Record
Kieran Shaw (1-2) picked up the first win with 2.0 innings of work in relief. He gave up two runs on four hits with one strikeout.
Maxx Harpalani (0-1) took the game one loss for PC after coming in to start the 10th inning.
Kevin Stone (2-1) went the distance in game two, giving up five runs on nine hits. He also had two walks against two strikeouts.
Austin Paradis (0-2) took the game two loss in relief for PC, throwing 2.0 innings and giving up two runs on four hits with one strikeout.
AJ Priaulx recorded his second 5-for-5 game of the week after becoming only the eighth batter in PC’s Division I history to record the feat on Wednesday against NC Central.
PC honored the 1998 PC Baseball team before the game. Coach Doug Kovash threw out the first pitch.
The Blue Hose will travel to Greensboro, N.C., to play NC A&T on Wednesday for a 4 pm game.
