Clinton, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's soccer team hosts Radford and Campbell this week at Martin Stadium in what is guaranteed to be crucial matchups for the Big South. The last time these teams met was the 2018 Big South Tournament with No. 3 PC knocking out No. 2 Radford, 2-0, on the road before being upset themselves in overtime by No. 4 Campbell in the Big South Tournament Finals, 1-0.

The Opponents ...

Radford (2-6-2, 0-2) is 1-4 in their last five games and 2-5-2 in one-goal games this season. They have OT wins against Howard and UNCG, OT losses against Campbell and Gardner-Webb as well as a 1-0 loss to #5 Virginia.

 

The Highlanders are led offensively by Amadou Macky Diop’s four goals. Joseba Incera has played a majority of minutes in goal with a 1.64 GAA, .622 save percentage with one shutout and 23 saves on the year.

 

Campbell (8-2-1, 2-0) plays Winthrop on Wednesday and has won five straight games. Thibaut Jacquel leads the team with nine goals, while Samuel Lechuga has seven shutouts in goal with a 0.61 GAA and .767 save percentage on the year.

 

Series Histories …

Presbyterian trails Radford 3-8-3 since 2008 with five of the last six games being decided by one goal or fewer. Last season, PC lost a 1-0 OT game at Radford during the regular season but picked up a 2-0 win in the second round of the Big South Tournament.

 

The series between Presbyterian and Campbell is tied 5-5 dating back to 2011. The Camels broke a streak of four consecutive losses to take a 1-0 OT win at Martin Stadium and win the Big South Tournament title the last time these two teams met.

 

Last Time Out ...

The Blue Hose overcame an early 1-0 deficit at Longwood to win a 2-1 OT game against the Lancers on Saturday. Sergio Pinto (38’) and Riccardo Turcis (96’) scored goals with Luca Ziegler (38’) earning an assist.

 

tHats Impressive ...

Redshirt freshman Cesar Sancho was named the Big South Freshman of the Week on September 30 after the centerback recorded a hat trick in PC’s 3-0 win against Furman. It was the first hat trick in PC’s Division I era and first clean sheet of the 2019 campaign.

 

6000 Minute Man ...

Senior Ricardo Hernandez leads the program in career minutes played (5994) and could become the first player in program history to reach 6000 minutes if he plays six minutes against Longwood.

 

Milestone Watch ...

Redshirt senior Sergio Pinto is tied for 1st in PC’s Division I history with 10 career assists and four game winning goals. He needs four more points and two goals to move into a tie for first in those categories.

 

Preseason Poll ...

The Blue Hose were selected fourth in the Big South preseason poll for the second consecutive year. After winning the 2017 Big South Tournament, last year’s team dropped a 1-0 overtime game to Campbell in the Big South Finals.
