PAWLEY’S ISLAND, S.C. – Freshman Jimmy McCollum fired an even par 70 and fellow freshman Thomas Hollingsworth carded a one-over par 71 to lead the Presbyterian College men’s golf team in the final round of the Golfweek Program Championship at Caledonia GC (par-70, 6526 yards) on Tuesday. The Blue Hose finished tied for 14th in the team standings with Stetson.
Jacksonville captured the team title with a three-round total of 828. Segunda Oliva Pinto of UNCW shot a tournament-low 61 on Tuesday to claim medalist honors with an 18-under par 192 total score.
-Competing in his first event as a Blue Hose, McCollum shaved six shots off of his second round score to post his 70. The freshman bogeyed his first two holes, then recovered to shoot two-under par over his final 16 holes. McCollum carded a pair of birdies to get back to even, then parred his final nine holes. He finished third on PC with a 54-hole total of 223 (77, 76, 70) to tie for 62nd.
-After firing a 70 in Monday’s second round, Hollingsworth led the Blue Hose with three birdies on Tuesday to card his 71. Like McCollum, Hollingsworth bounced back from a slow start, playing the final 13 holes of his day one-under par. Hollingsworth’s 217 total (76, 70, 71) ranked second on PC, and put him in a tie for 42nd.
-Senior AJ Nolin finished his tournament off with a final-round 72. Nolin led the Blue Hose for the event, totaling 215 (70, 73, 72) over his 54 holes to tie for 32nd.
-Freshman Mason Whatley and sophomore Nat Simkins each carded final rounds of 77. In his collegiate debut, Whatley finished tied for 76th with a total of 228 (75, 76, 77). Simkins dropped six shots off of his second round score to post his 77. The sophomore tied for 79th place with a 54-hole total of 230 (70, 83, 77). The 230 was Simkins’ lowest three-round total of his collegiate career.
-As a team, PC’s final round score of 290 was its lowest of the tournament. The Blue Hose finished with a team total of 876 (291, 295, 290).
The Blue Hose return to action at the River Run Collegiate hosted by Davidson from Sept. 23-24.
