PAWLEY’S ISLAND, S.C. – Senior AJ Nolin fired an even par 70 in his opening round on the way to leading the Presbyterian College men’s golf team on the first day of the Golfweek Program Championship.  The Blue Hose are in 15th place in the team standings after the first two rounds of the two-day event, which is being held at Caledonia GC (par-70, 6526 yards) on Pawley’s Island.


Jacksonville State holds the lead in the team standings, with a team total of 551 through 36 holes. Old Dominion and USC Upstate are tied for second, two strokes back. Jacksonville’s Michael Sakane sits atop the player standings with a two-round total of 10-under par 130. Segunda Oliva Pinto of UNCW is one shot behind Sakane.



-Nolin shot two-over par over his first nine holes in the opening round, but went two-under on his final nine to get back to even par. The senior’s opening round included an eagle on the 571-yard, par-5 second hole. He was one of 11 players in the field to card an eagle on the day.

-The Omaha, Neb., native shot a second-round 73, bringing his total to 143, which has him in a tie for 35th in the players’ standings.

-Sophomore Nat Simkins also posted an opening round 70, which included four birdies. It was the lowest round of his collegiate career. The Augusta, Ga., native led the Blue Hose with six birdies on the day. His 36-hole total is 153.

-In his collegiate debut, freshman Thomas Hollingsworth was the third Blue Hose to card a 70, shaving six shots off of his opening round score. He tied for second on PC with five birdies for the day, and posted the second-lowest total for the day, at 146.

-Also making their collegiate debuts were fellow freshmen Mason Whatley and Jimmy McCollum. Whatley carded rounds of 75 and 76 for a 36-hole total of 151. He poured in five birdies for the day.

-McCollum opened with a 77, then dropped to 76 in round two for a total of 153.
