WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team dropped its 2019 season opener to Wake Forest, 25-15, 25-22, 25-23 on day one of the Spartan-Demon Deacon Classic Friday evening at Reynolds Gymnasium.



-Senior Erin Eulitz paced the Blue Hose with eight kills, while junior Allie Wright added seven kills to go along with a team-best .467 hitting percentage.

-Starting at libero in her first match at PC, sophomore transfer Emily Braxton led the team with 15 digs.

-Junior Sierra Jones handed out a team-high 13 assists, while sophomore Erin Cooke chipped in 11.

-Also making their Blue Hose debuts were true freshman Paige Cairns, who earned a start in her first career collegiate match, and junior transfer Hannah Chapman.


How it Happened

-The Demon Deacons opened the first set on a 6-0 run. Presbyterian College drew within 10-6, but Wake Forest responded with the next seven points to put the opening set out of reach.

-Wake Forest began the second set strong as well with a 7-2 spurt. The Blue Hose trimmed the margin down to two points on several occasions, including a Eulitz kill to make it 24-22, but the Demon Deacons were able to stave off the rally.

-After falling behind 4-2 to start the third set, PC used an 8-2 surge to take a 10-6 advantage behind three kills from Wright. The hosts tallied 10 of the next 11 points to regain the lead from the Blue Hose at 16-11. Late in the set, a 5-1 stretch got PC back within one at 24-23, but the Demon Deacons held on to claim the set and match-clinching point.
