CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb senior Johan Fors(Dalsjofors, Sweden) is this week’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Presbyterian’s Oscar Alvarez (Mexico City, Mexico) is the Freshman of the Week for matches played April 8-13, the conference office announced Sunday.
Alvarez picked up a pair of wins last Thursday afternoon against Winthrop, the lone Blue Hose to do so. He helped take the No. 1 doubles match, 6-3. Then in singles play, Alvarez won the deciding match for PC, with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot.
Fors went a combined 4-1 last week between No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles and helped Gardner-Webb to three conference wins. Fors began the week with two victories at Hampton in the 6-0 team win on Thursday. He then helped the Runnin’ Bulldogs clinch a share of the regular season championship with a 6-2 doubles win and a 6-1, 6-1 singles win against Longwood on Saturday.
