Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over UNC Asheville on Senior Day on Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Blue Hose to 6-1 in conference play, 16-5 overall for the 2018-19 season.

The match began with the Blue Hose grabbing the doubles point. The senior duo of Sydney Patton and Tracy Johnson were dominant, picking up a 6-2 win on Bobby McKee Court. After PC dropped the match on court two, the first point of the day would come down to court three. Beth Taylor and Katie Thompson earned the victory and point for the Blue Hose, needing to win an extra game to take the set, 7-5.

Johnson once again made quick work of her opponent in singles play on court two. She took home her second win of the day in straight sets. Thompson and Taylor followed suit with their second wins, both in just two sets, of the afternoon, clinching the match for the Blue Hose. Jessica Leeman followed that with a three-set victory on court five. Both Patton and Samantha Calais dropped heartbreakers in three sets.

“I thought today was a great day to show our appreciation for our seniors,” said head coach Steve Brooks. “It was great to see them both play well today, especially together in doubles. Tracy, being here for four years, has really seen the growth of this program and she had a big part in it. Sydney has been an excellent addition to the program this season, taking command of court one and playing very well. I know we aren’t done yet, but it’s really difficult to express how proud I am of that pair of seniors.”
