Trailing by eight early in the second half, Charleston Southern out-scored the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team, 32-14, over a 15-minute span to rally to the 72-65 win and spoil senior day on Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Center. Christian Keeling scored 23 points lead Charleston Southern, while four Blue Hose finished in double-figures with Adam Flagler leading the team with 16 points.
Scoring the Game
The first half was a back and forth battle, as the Blue Hose took a five-point lead, 12-7, after a fast-break layup from Adam Flagler and three-pointer from J.C. Younger at 14:43. The two teams would trade baskets over the ensuing minutes, with another Younger three giving PC a four-point lead, 19-15, at 10:22.
The Bucs used a 7-0 run, capped by a dunk from Christian Keeling to give them a 22-19 lead with 8:32 left in the first half. The Blue Hose answered with a 15-6 run to take their largest lead of the half at six, 34-28, 3:56 on the clock. Kody Shubert recorded five points, while Cory Hightower added four points over the run.
Back-to-back threes by the Bucs’ Phlandrous Fleming and Travis McConico highlighted an 8-0 run to give the Bucs a two-point lead. It was short-lived as PC ended the half on a small 5-2 run to go into the locker room leading by one, 39-38.
Flagler scored six points in an 8-0 run to start the second half and give PC 46-38 lead at 16:30. Charleston Southern then scored nine unanswered to take a one-point lead. It was followed by seven straight from PC, then 10 unanswered from CSU, the last giving the visitors a four-point lead, 57-53, 7:04 on the clock.
The Blue Hose cut the lead to two off a Francois Lewis layup and again off two Hightower free throws at 2:40. That would be as close as the home team would get as CSU, behind an 11-3 run which included six from Fleming, to increase the lead to double-digits, 70-60, 33 seconds to go. Flagler capped the night with a three-pointer at the 10 second mark to give the Bucs the 72-65 win.

CSU’s Christian Keeling led all scorers with 14 first half points, finishing the night with 23. Phlandrous Fleming finished with a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds). Four Blue Hose scored in double-figures with Adam Flagler pacing the squad with 16. He was followed by Cory Hightower (14), Kody Shubert (13), and Francois Lewis (11). Lewis led PC on the boards with nine.
Stats of the Game
The Blue Hose shot 34.8% from the field for the afternoon, and were six-of-26 from the perimeter, including a one-of-10 effort in the second half. Charleston Southern shot 45.6% from the field, only hitting five three-pointers. The Bucs led the rebounding margin, 42-39, with the Blue Hose winning the turnover margin, 8-12. Free throws were fairly even with PC connecting on 13, to CSU’s 15.

PC drops to 17-14 overall and 9-7 in the Big South, while Charleston Southern moves to 15-14, 9-7.
The Blue Hose are next in action in the first round of the Big South Tournament Tuesday, Mar. 5. PC will host an opponent yet to be determined with tip set for 7 p.m.
