Behind 20-point games from Adam Flagler and Francois Lewis, the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team out-scored UNC Asheville, 42-25, in the second half to erase a halftime deficit and come away with the 71-55 win Saturday afternoon in Big South action at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C. Lewis led PC with 22 points, followed by Flagler with 21.
Scoring the Game
The Blue Hose took an early 7-0 lead, in part to back to back three-pointers from Francois Lewis and Adam Flagler. UNC Asheville stormed back, scoring 11 unanswered to take an 11-7 lead, 13:40 to go in the first half. Two free throws from Cory Hightower at the 13:21 mark stopped the drought. A Donovan Gilmore dunk gave the Bulldogs a nine-point lead, but Flagler’s three at 7:46 cut the margin to just six, 20-14.
The Bulldogs returned with four straight to build a 10-point lead, but PC responded with five from Lewis to cut the margin to five, 24-19, 4:58 on the clock. A couple of free throws by Ben Darke and a three from JC Younger made it just a two-point game, 26-24, with under three to play.
Both teams traded points the remainder of the half with the Flagler hitting a three with 42 seconds left ti make it a one-point game at the break, 30-29.
The Blue Hose scored the second half’s first four points to take a three-point lead, 18:23 left. Five unanswered from Asheville out the home team back on top, 35-33, 16:19 to go. It was short-lived with a Lewis layup 20 seconds later tied the game at 35-35. It was the start of a 6-0 run that saw PC build a 39-35 lead, 14:41 remaining.
Knotted again at 40-40, Flagler hit his fourth three-pointer of the game to take the Blue Hose ahead, 43-40, 11:31 on the clock. Flagler added a layup, a free throw and three-pointer over a span of two minutes to make it a nine-point game, 49-40. Asheville cut the lead to six off a Gilmore three at 8:46, but PC came back with an 11-3 run, highlighted by two three-pointers from Lewis, to build a 60-46 lead, 6:46 on the clock. Asheville cut the margin to 10 over the next two minutes with four free throws, but a Younger three and Romeo Crouch layup made it a 15-point game, 65-50, 4:21 on the clock. That would be as close as the Bulldogs would get, with the Blue Hose out-scoring the home team, 11-5 down the stretch to take the 71-55 win.

Leading the scoring for PC was Francois Lewis with 22 points, followed closely by Adam Flagler with 21 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. The Blue Hose struggled offensively in the first half, shooting 25.0%, compared to 48.1% for Asheville. Keeping PC in the game were five three-pointers to UNC Asheville’s two. Rebounds in the first half were even, 16-16.
PC shot better in the second half to finish the game shooting 38.9%. UNC Asheville shot 42.0%. The Blue Hose out-rebounded Asheville 20-13 in the second half to hold the 367-29 advantage on the boards. PC was 11-of-33 from the perimeter, Asheville was six-of-16. The visitors had five less turnovers, 10-15, and hit 11 more free throws, 18-7.
