CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College baseball senior pitcher Colton Springs was one of 75 players named to the 2019 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List as announced by the association on Monday.
The award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball with this being the 15th year of the award. In total, 26 conferences have representation on the list with at least two players coming from 17 different leagues. Springs is one of three relief pitchers to be on this list representing the Big South.
Springs comes into 2019 following a 2-3 record a season ago with a 3.34 ERA. He allowed just 11 earned runs in 29.2 innings pitched and struck out 44 batters, while also picking up a pair of saves to go along with it. He earned Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week honors following throwing four hitless innings against Longwood where he had a win and a save.
The Midseason watch list will be released on Wednesday April 24th followed by a June 5th unveiling of the Stopper of the Year finalists. The 2019 Stopper of the Year Winner will be announced on Saturday June 15th.
The Blue Hose open up the 2019 campaign on Friday February 15 as they travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and take on Alabama in a three-game series at Sewell-Thomas Baseball Stadium. Presbyterian’s home opener will be Friday February 22nd when the Blue Hose welcome in Marist for a three-game set.
