Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team defeated Morgan State 9-2 in the final game of day two of the Blue Hose Invitational on Saturday afternoon. This is the second time the Blue Hose have defeated the Lady Bears in as many days.
The Blue Hose offense exploded early, sending 11 batters to the plate in the home half of the first inning. PC plated five runs on five hits in their first time at bat, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Kiley Kross. Jonnie Petree reached base twice in the frame and drove home a run with a single her second time at the dish. Ansley Wilbanks plated the first run when she drove in Petree on a single up the middle. Each of the first six Blue Hose reached base.
The Blue Hose would add a pair of insurance runs in the fourth inning, and then put one across in both the fifth and sixth. Casey Gerhard drove home Wilbanks in the fourth with a single to center field and Chelsea Lyons brought in Kross on a sacrifice fly, following a second double for Kross. Petree would score an additional two runs on errors.
Alyssa Batastini collected her second win as a Blue Hose on Saturday afternoon. The redshirt junior went four-plus innings, allowing only four hits and a pair of runs. Batastini tallied a pair of strikeouts on the day.
Courtney White pitched three innings of no-hit relief, allowing a baserunner only with a walk. The junior collected three strikeouts on the way to the PC victory.
The Blue Hose Invitational concludes on Sunday with PC taking part in the final game of the tournament against East Tennessee State. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Akron will take on Morgan State at 10:00 a.m. and ETSU at 12:00 p.m. to begin the day.
