JC Younger hit six three-pointers, scoring 19 points, while Davon Bell added 16, to lead the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team to the 68-59 win over USC Upstate in Big South action Monday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C.  PC has now won three in a row, tying its longest win streak of the season.


Scoring the Game

The Blue Hose came out of the gates strong, jumping out to a 13-0 lead with 14:52 to go in the half, helped by three-pointers from Adam Flagler and Chris Martin.  USC Upstate responded with an 18-5 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 18-18.  The Spartans’ Malik Moore scored five unanswered to take a 25-20 lead, 8:35 on the clock, but the Blue Hose answered with a 13-3, including back to back three-pointers from JC Younger and Flagler, to retake the lead, 33-28, 2:13 left.  USC Upstate cut the margin to two, 33-31, but a Martin free throw with a minute and a half to go proved to be the final score of the half as the Blue Hose headed to the locker room with the 34-31 lead.


PC led off the second with a 6-1 run, building an eight-point, 40-32 lead, 16:25 on the clock.  Five unanswered by the Spartans made it a three-point game, but Younger’s three-pointer at 13:01 made it a six-point game, 43-47.


After a back and forth battle over the next several minutes, PC held on to a 46-43 lead, 10:10 remaining.  A Younger three-pointer at 9:43 and again at 8:15 put the Blue Hose ahead by nine, 52-43.  PC took the lead up to double-digits until a 1:22 left when Deion Holmes cut the lead to seven off a layup.  Younger’s sixth three-pointer of the night with just under a minute to play ended the potential rally and putting PC ahead by 10, 68-58.  Upstate hit a basket with 33 seconds left, but that was it as the Blue Hose came away with the 68-59 win.


Players of the Game

JC Younger hit six three-pointers and one free throw to finish with a team-leading 19 points, while Davon Bell and Adam Flagler added 16 and 13 points, respectively.  Francois Lewis paced the team in rebounds with seven.  Malik Moore led USC Upstate with 20 points and 15 rebounds.


Stats of the Game

The Blue Hose shot 45.5% from the field, compared to 35.7% for USC Upstate.  The Spartans hit nine three-pointers, while PC posted 11.  Free throws were in favor of PC, 17-11, while Upstate led the rebounding effort, 39-30.



- JC Younger’s 13 three-pointers attempted tied for sixth in the PC DI record book, his six made tied for eighth.

- PC’s three-game winning streak ties for the longest of the season.

- The 12 wins is the most for PC since the 14 victories in 2011-12.


For the Record

PC moves to 12-9 overall and 4-2 in the Big South, while USC Upstate drops to 5-16, 0-6.
