Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team will open up their 2019 slate this weekend with matches against Charlotte and South Carolina. The Blue Hose will take on the 49ers on the road on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. and then will head to Columbia to face the Gamecocks Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
Fourth-year head coach Patrick Fediuk leads a team with four returners and five freshmen. Sophomore Daniel Stenger, who was named Second Team All-Big South Singles last season, junior Jaime Castillo-Lopez, named Second Team All-Big South singles in 2017, redshirt junior Elias Svensson, and sophomore Alberto Conde will all be back on the court for the Blue Hose this season. The five newcomers to the team are Oscar Alvarez, Jonathan Bedard, Max Benson, Nicholas McKinney, and Vance Mercer.
In the fall, McKinney won his singles flight and Stenger and Alvarez took home their doubles flight title at the Gamecock Invitational. Stenger and McKinney, as well as Castillo-Lopez and Benson, each competed in singles play at the ITA Regionals, with Stenger advancing to the third round.
The meeting between PC and Charlotte will be the 11th all-time. The 49ers hold the series advantage, 7-3. The matchup between the Blue Hose and the Gamecocks will be the 27th all-time. South Carolina leads the series 16-10.
