Down 41-19 at half, the Blue Hose outscored the Bruins 46-39 in the second half, cutting the lead to just three late, behind a career-high 29 points and seven three-pointers from freshman Adam Flagler, before falling to 17th-Ranked UCLA, 80-65, Monday night at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif.


Scoring the Game

After a scoreless opening two-and-a-half minutes, UCLA put the first points on the board with a dunk by Moses Brown at 17:27.  It ignited an 11-2 Bruin run over the next four minutes, with a three-pointer by Flagler at 11:58 breaking it up.  UCLA scored the next nine to build a 20-5 lead, 8:28 on the clock.  Francois Lewis cut the margin to 12 at 7:35 but UCLA responded with 10 straight to take a 30-8 lead, 3:45 to go.


The Blue Hose and Bruins matched point for point the final three-and-a-half minutes, 11-11, capped by a JC Younger three-pointers at 1:03, with UCLA heading to the locker room with the 41-19 lead.


Flagler hit three three-pointers in the opening five minutes of the second half to help PC cut the UCLA lead to 18, 34-52, with 14:56 remaining.  The Bruins quickly extended the lead back to 21 off three points from Jules Bernard.  The Blue Hose answered with 10 unanswered, including back to back to back three-pointers, two from Flagler, to cut it to a 10-point game, 45-55, 10:54 remaining.


UCLA went back up by 14, 61-47, 9:40 ticks left, but a Lewis jumper and three three-pointers over a two-minute span to make it a one-possession game, 58-61, 7:40 left.  The Bruins outscored the Blue Hose 12-2 over the next three minutes to take the lead to 13, 73-60, 4:13 to go.


PC wouldn’t go away, with another Flagler three-pointers cutting a 15-point lead to 12, with just a minute-and-a-half to go.  Jaylen Hands hit a three on the other end to take the lead back to 15, 1:02 left.  That would be the last points of the game as UCLA survived, 80-65.


Players of the Game

Adam Flagler scored 24 of his 29 points, and six of his seven three-pointers in the second half to lead the Blue Hose back from a 24-point deficit to within three late in the game.  Cory Hightower paced the team in rebounds with seven.  Francois Lewis scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds as well.  Jaylen Hands led UCLA with 19 points, with Jalen Hill tops on the boards with 20.


Stats of the Game

PC shot 32% for the game and 43% in the second half, while UCLA hit 44% for the game.  The Blue Hose connected on 13 three-pointers, with 10 of them coming in the second half.  UCLA held the rebounding edge, 54-32, while PC had nine less turnovers, 12-21, resulting in a 20-13 advantage in points off turnovers.  Steals were in favor of PC as well, 12-5.
