Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team announced its 2019 schedule on Tuesday. The schedule, announced by head coach David Williams, features five tournaments in the first half of the season, including the Blue Hose Invitational to begin the season from February 8-10. The Blue Hose will play 22 home games at the PC Softball Complex this season.
“I am extremely excited about our schedule, as it allows us an opportunity to see a variety of opponents from several conferences,” said Williams. “The adversity within the schedule should help prepare us for Big South Conference play. Our players will continue to work hard as we near our opening date on February 8."
PC will host Morgan State, Akron, and ETSU for the Blue Hose Invitational in the season’s first weekend. The Blue Hose will take on Morgan State on February 8 and 9 and Akron on the 8 and 10.
The following week, from February 15-17, the Blue Hose will make a trip to Conway, S.C. to take part in the Coastal Carolina Tournament. There, PC will face Eastern Kentucky, Marshall, Towson, and host Coastal Carolina twice. Both Eastern Kentucky and Towson played in last year’s National Invitational Softball Championship.
The Blue Hose then return to Clinton for a doubleheader against Western Carolina on February 19. Following that, PC will travel to Montgomery, Ala. to play in the Alabama State Tournament. The Blue Hose will face UMKC and host Alabama State on February 22 and then will take on Grambling State and UMKC on the 23.
PC will then make a one-game stop in Athens, Ga. to face Georgia, who made last year’s Women’s College World Series, on February 27 before heading to Madeira Beach, Fla. for a tournament that begins on March 1. While in Madeira Beach, the Blue Hose will face Chattanooga, Villanova, Detroit Mercy, Siena, and Central Michigan before returning home to play a doubleheader against UNCG, 2018 Southern Conference Champion, on March 6.
The Blue Hose will then go back down to Florida to play in the Jacksonville Tournament, their fifth and final tournament. PC will play La Salle twice, as well as Jacksonville, Ball State, and UNF. That tournament will take place from March 8-10.
The Blue Hose will play seven more games before they return to Clinton, including a pair at Savannah State on March 12, opening up Big South play with a three-game set at USC Upstate from March 16-17, and a doubleheader at South Carolina State on March 19.
PC opens its home Big South schedule against Hampton for three games from March 23-24 and then plays a doubleheader against Charleston Southern on March 27. The Blue Hose then head up to Virginia to take on Radford in a three-game set on March 30 and 31 before returning home to play CSU again on April 3.
The Blue Hose conclude their Big South road schedule with a pair of three game series at Winthrop (April 9-10) and at Gardner-Webb (April 13-14). PC’s final non-conference games of the 2019 regular season will be a doubleheader at home against Appalachian State on April 16.
PC will finish their season with six straight Big South home games. The Blue Hose will host Campbell for a three-game series on April 19-20 and will end the regular season with a three game set against Longwood from April 27-28.
The Big South Tournament will be held May 8-11 by host Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C.
