Charlotte, N.C. – Senior Sally Hart set a new school record in the 5k at the Queen City Invite. Nine other Blue Hose ran a personal or season best at McAlpine Park on Friday night.

Hart ran the 5k in 18:42, 14 seconds faster than her time last year. She finished 43rd in the race, leading the women’s team to 17th place with 503 points. Junior Ali Bennett finished 96th with a time of 20:11, with freshman Julia Keen (103rd) and junior Denise Devaney (124th) finishing closely behind at 20:26 and 21:10, respectively. Senior Ripley Fricano rounded out the scoring for PC, finishing with 22:08 to place 140th. Also running for the Blue Hose was sophomore Abigayle Winn, who placed 195th with a time of 29:55.

Freshman Zack Kochert paced the PC men’s team, finishing the 8k in 27:32. He placed 96th, leading the team to 668 points to finish in 24th place. Sophomore Banner Plumb finished closely behind with a time of 27:59, placing 122nd. Freshman Kieran Schuetterle (29:03), sophomore William Wise (29:45) and freshman Luke Harmon (30:31) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Hose, finishing 161st, 177th, and 193rd, respectively. Seniors Jake Birdsong (225th) and Alex Johnson (230th) also competed for PC. They finished with times of 33:29 and 33:58, respectively.

Noel Palmer of Liberty won the 5k with a time of 17:10. Duke took first place with a combined score of 64 points. Liberty’s Azaria Kirwa was the winner of the 8k, finishing in 23:54, leading the Flames to the team title with a nearly perfect score of 18.

The Blue Hose will race next at the Vertcross Invitational, which will also serve as the Big South Preview meet. The races will take place at High Point on Friday, October 12.
