Spartanburg, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 5th at the 35th annual Eye Opener on Friday night. Seniors Sally Hart and Duncan Gotfredson led their respective teams at the Milliken Center.

Hart finished 22nd overall, running a 20:22 in the first race of 2018. Emily Swanigan ran 21:33 to finish second for the Blue Hose. Denise Devaney finished third for PC, 54th overall, running a 23:09. Julia Keen rounded out the PC women’s team, running a 24:24 and placing 63rd overall in her first collegiate race.

Gotfredson ran a 28:41, finishing 30th overall, to lead the Blue Hose men’s team. Banner Plumb and Zack Kochert ran together for the entirety of the race with Plumb barely edging past Kochert at the finish. They finished 46th and 47th overall with times of 29:42.2 and 29:42.7, respectively. William Wise ran a 30:29 to finish 59th overall. Concluding the scoring for PC was Luke Harmon, who finished 66th overall with a time of 31:22. Also running in the race for the men’s team was Kieran Schuetterle, who ran a 33:52, finishing 75th overall, Jake Birdsong who finished 81st overall with a time of 36:16, and Alex Johnson, who ran a 39:40, finishing 88th overall.

The Blue Hose will race again on September 15th at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
