Charlotte, N.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team began its season at the Charlotte Invitational on Friday, dropping a pair of matches to host Charlotte and Elon. The Blue Hose fell to Charlotte 16-25, 16-25, and 19-25, and Elon 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, and 20-25.

In the first match, PC was led by its underclassmen, with three sophomores and three freshmen being in the starting lineup. Sophomores Sydney De Jong and Allie Wright and freshman Lauren Talbert were tied for the team-high in kills, seven. Sophomore Sierra Jones tallied a team-high 17 assists during the match. Freshman Erin Cooke did a little bit of everything, chipping in with 13 assists, five kills, and four digs. Freshman Trinity Williams picked up six kills and also had six digs. Redshirt junior Daley Gosnell, the lone upperclassmen starter, had a team-high 17 digs.

During the second set, the Blue Hose jumped out to a 12-6 lead, their largest at any point in the match. The 49ers rallied and a 19-4 run, including six straight points, to take the set. In the final set, with PC trailing 8-7, Charlotte strung together five straight points, leading to their victory.

In the second match, Cooke filled the stat sheer once again, leading the Blue Hose with 12 kills while also tallying 13 assists and eight digs. Junior Erin Eulitz picked up seven kills and had 13 digs. Jones had 17 assists once again, leading PC. Gosnell also paced the team once again in digs with 25 in the second match. Wright recorded six kills and a team-high five blocks in the afternoon contest.

The Blue Hose were propelled to victory in the third set by a 9-2 run to finish the set. Included in that run were a pair of four straight points won. PC then pounced on Elon in the beginning of the fourth set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Elon would fight back with a 16-3 run, making the score 17-10. The Blue Hose rally in the set fell short.

The Blue Hose will conclude their play in the Charlotte Invitational tomorrow with a match against Virginia Tech. The match is to begin at 12 noon. Live stats for the match can be found here.
